Burnham v Maldon

Burnham hosted Maldon today in a match that was postponed from last week. Maldon arrived with 30 players this was after leaving some at home, a big thank you to all our players and parents as our whole squad turned out which totalled 11. Thankfully we had a new player join today Thomas Griffin which gave us enough players to field two teams of 6.

Maldon split into three teams of 10 and each of their teams wanted to play each of our teams so this meant three games of 10 minutes for each.

Our teams were:
J Banks, G Cooke, G Hutcheon, P Smyth, D Horton, T Griffin
O Bennett, T Courts, N Flynn, K Harris, G Hall, B Hainsby

The games started off fast with Maldon scoring first on both pitches. On the pitch I was refereeing Maldon showed some fantastic speed and support play turning the ball over time after time with a final score of 8:1 to Maldon. Our other team faired better losing 7:5.

The second round proved a little closer with Maldon still winning both games. In the final round our players were starting to feel tired but this did not dampened their sprits and made them work as a team a little better. One of our teams managed a seven tag turnover our only one of the day, with Paddy taking three of the tags as Maldon recycled the ball along the side line.

Burnham played exceptionally well running with the ball against a very strong Maldon team who not only held the defensive line very well but had great speed and support in attack which lead to victory on the day in all but one game which ended in a draw.
