After weeks of cancelled games due to the weather and flooded pitches Burnham U8 travelled to Westcliff for the Essex Festival.
Burnham were in Pool A against Westcliff A, Eton Manor, Wanstead & Chelmsford A.
After watching three games the Burnham players couldn't wait to get started. We played Chelmsford A first in a low scoring game with Burnham eventually finishing 3 - 2 winners. It was a close game but both teams played well with some great tagging in defence.
Burnham then played Wanstead straight after and both teams showed great attacking skills. Both teams were scoring tries and running end to end with some quick tries being scored. After the 10 minutes game it ended in a fair 6 - 6 draw.
Burnham's next game was against Eton Manor. Both teams were even matched and scoring good tries but also tagging well. One of the Eton Manor players couldn't finish the game so Burnham let them borrow a player, George. George didn't let Burnham get through the defences easily and even managed to score against his own club (with a grin on his face) to help Eton come out 4 - 3 winners.
After a couple of games rest Burnham then played our last game of the day against Westcliff A. Both teams started well but the Burnham players turned into tagging machines and got the ball turned over more than once with the 6 Tag turnover rule. All players showed great teamwork in attack but also great support of each other in defence. Probably the best Tagging display we have seen from the Burnham team this year. The tagging kept preventing Westcliff from scoring and Burnham came away with a 3 - 1 win. A great way to end a really well run day by Essex and Westcliff Rugby Club.
