Under 9 first game of the Season

Under 9 Match Report 2 October 2016.

Today the Burnham under 9’s took on Old Brentwood and Romford in a triangle game at old Brentwood.

This was to be our first contact game after two years of tag rugby. We played Romford first a very well drilled team. Romford started the game and we went straight into tackling it was very impressive to see the players very stepping up to the mark so quickly unfortunately Romford managed to score by finding a whole down our right side, something to work on as they did this later in the game.

Being one try down did not last for long as Thomas Courts managed to equalise with some great team play allowing his fast feet to finish off a great team effort. The final score was Romford 4 Burnham 3 with Romford scoring the final point in the last play of the game after Burnham had held then back time after time with a very strong defence.

Our second game of the day was against the home team Old Brentwood again the opposition started with the ball. This time however we managed to turn the ball over and score the first try, twice Patrick Smyth managed to put pressure on at the start of play to incept the ball scoring on each occasion some well earned tries. Player of the day goes to Oliver Bennet for some outstanding tackles right on the try line. A special note must go out to Riley Stubbings and George Spring for playing their first game so well after given they only joined at the start of the season.
