Structure and discipline paying off

An amazing morning of rugby. Beautiful sunny day, and perfect conditions for rugby.

1st match, Burnham came onto the pitch focused and ready for action. Captain OG drew first blood opening the score with a powerful run through a multitude of opposition players, with the rest of the team poised and ready to support with the organisation of a well drilled team. Braintree didn’t make life easy for Burnham with their kicking, but Burnham responded brilliantly by keeping their shape and their heads in the task at hand. Burnham narrowly lost the first game on points, but won with discipline , determination and (as Dan would say) champagne rugby. Eddie Jones, you need to be looking at this team!!!

The second game the boys took their foot of the pedal initially as Braintree broke through some holes in Burnham’s defence. But Burnham didn’t drop their heads and give up. In a defining moment OG who had been waiting for the right opportunity lasered in on a Braintree player like a heat seeking missile. The impact was huge, Courtney Lawes would have been proud of that tackle. The team were energised again, got back into their controlled discipline play and scored some very well worked tries with pod work and quick passes, moving the ball efficiently through the team creating themselves the opportunity to score. This game ended in a draw.

The team was the winner here, and every player should be proud of the way in which they played. Although every player deserved to be player of the week for their efforts, it was Charlie Watts selected for his all-out attacking play. Taking the ball and literally ploughing through anyone that got in his way, making some brilliant tackles to stop Braintree in their tracks.

Also Aidan Hull for defensive player of the week. Determined not to let anyone pass, Aidan took out half the opposing team with great tackles, no matter how big they were .
Well done both of you.

Many thanks to Amalie for the match report

All in all a brilliant morning of rugby away from home, taking what they’ve learnt from the training pitch and putting it into practice on the playing field( or battle ground).
You should all be very proud of your efforts.

Next week the team are away at Barking.
