Burnham at May and Baker

Burnham at May and Baker

On what was the first cold day of the season we arrived at May And Baker (Dagenham). After arriving we found out that we we're not just playing May and Baker but a quadrangle with Barking and Upminster as well.

With a very depleted team as it was half term and three players dropping out on day we only just had a team, playing a single game would be fine but a mini festival would definitely test our players fitness and resilience and even before we faced up against the opposition we notice how small we where compared to the other teams.

Our first game was against Barking and after a few injuries we played well and did some great rucking but we let ourselves down with not closing the opposition down and simple passes going astray leading to Barking taking the advantage and scoring a number of times. A great kick from Toby followed by a quick run from Joe saw Joe score a try, the final score was Barking 8 - 2 Burnham (Joe 2).

The sun came out after the first game this lifted the teams spirits for our second game which we played was some of the best Rugby we played all day against May and Baker - a far superior side who really made us up our game. As Coach Danny said to the team we did everything right but with a few injuries and players getting tried. We played with passion and after an illegal hand off Thomas G got straight back up and pounced onto the offending players bring him to the ground. There were some good plays from Burnham with some great tackling on the wings and tough rucking in field. Burnham made some fantastic breaks and then earnt try's against the build pressure from the home side. Final Score May & Baker 6 - 2 Burnham (Joe 1, TT 1)

The third game saw the sun disappear behind the clouds and our tried players played a side with lots of subs. Very good rugby was played by both sides but we were not winning the rucks and allowed the opposition to romp home to victory.

Final score Upminster 9 - 1 Burnham (Joe 1)

The days final scores didn't reflect or affect the teams moral and all the team walked away with their heads held high.
