The WoodBurn team started this game with a real intensity and togetherness and not allowing Southend much time with the ball with some great counter rucking to get the ball back in their possession.
After only two minutes Daniel put in a crunching tackle to stop a Southend attack but it meant that he needed to come off the pitch after feeling some pins and needles in his arm. This early substitute did not disrupt the team though and Harry ran in a try under the posts which was converted by Taylor.
3 minutes later the team set up a ruck, then a couple of pick and drives to bring in the defenders. The team then spread the ball wide and George O touched down under the posts which was again converted by Taylor.
At this point the coaching team were wondering what the boys had for breakfast and wondered what they had done differently but whatever the difference was, it was making the team perform their best performance of the season so far.
The scores seemed to be happening every 3 minutes and the next try came from Arthur after seeing a gap next to the ruck he got his first try and yet again it was converted by Taylor.
Even with Southend putting in a good shift in defence and getting their own attacking chances the WoodBurn team were so focused on the game the tries kept coming. With Max, Charlie and Tayor getting himself on the try scoresheet and all three of these tries converted by taylor making it 6 from 6.
This meant that the game was won just before Half Time but after talking to the Southend coaching team and the referee it was agreed to let the boys play out the game.
In the second half Daniel returned to the pitch. The WoodBurn team continued from where they left off at half time. Southend only broke into the opposition half a few times but WoodBurn kept turning over possession and they got two more tries from SWF Sammy and Ewan. Daniel only getting one of the two conversions.
Even though the scoreline was very one sided it did not reflect the game. Southend never dropped their heads and kept coming forward. They eventually got their try half way through the second half but missed the conversion.
The end of the second half saw two more ties to WoodBurns from Taylor and Arthur (both getting their second tries of the game). Arthurs try was a pick and go from the back of a ruck just outside his own 22m line. He ran straight up the middle of the pitch to touch down under the posts. Taylor converted both tries making his conversion tally 8 from 8 which was a great effort.
After the game both teams congratulated each other and the SWF VP’s clapped the boys into the clubhouse.
With a performance such as this week it is very difficult for the coaches to pick one player out of the team but all coaches agreed that Charlie was this weeks Player of the week.
