It was a windy Thursday evening as the U10s gathered for training, looking to build on their strong showing against Braintree the previous weekend. Katherine and Dan, as ever, came armed with fresh ideas and enthusiasm—but putting those plans into action late in the school week can sometimes be a challenge with a bunch of tired but eager youngsters.
Unfazed, the coaches got the players straight into the action with tackling drills using the tackle pads. The team’s growing confidence and improved technique were plain to see—each week their form in contact gets stronger, and it’s translating directly into their match performances.
A few more skills drills and mini-games followed, helping the players refine different aspects of their play before rounding off with a training match. There were moments of real quality on show and signs of continued improvement, but as sometimes happens late in the week, a few lapses in discipline crept in. Katherine called time on the session early, reminding the team that their well-earned reputation for excellent TREDS (Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, and Sportsmanship) must always come first.
Fortunately, there was one player who truly embodied those values throughout the evening. Jack stood out for his excellent focus, commitment, and tackling technique. Since joining at the start of the season, he’s become an increasingly important player for the team—consistent, reliable, and quietly effective. While others lost focus, Jack set the standard with a disciplined and hard-working performance that didn’t go unnoticed.
Well done, Jack! A true example of what this U10s side is all about.
