The warriors visited Westcliff on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to take part in this years Westcliff festival. Our group was made up of Upminster, Chelmsford, Westcliff, Welwyn & Brentwood - all of whom we knew would give us a stern test.
Over the course of the afternoon there was some fantastic rugby on show from all sides, each game creating a different problem for Burnham to work out and with all the teams showing different skill sets in different areas it was good to see how the warriors handled each game. This is especially important for their development as players and as a squad, not every team plays the same way and you need to adapt quickly whilst also trying to impose your own style of play on the game.
What was so pleasing to see was the heart and desire from everyone on the day, win, lose or draw maximum effort was put in by the entire squad, they turned out on the day and wore their jerseys with pride.... and a little sweat!
We witnessed the highs and lows of rugby all in one afternoon with some rugby that at times seemed above this age grade. There were some outstanding inter -passing and support play on show leading to a few well executed team scores and some individual excellence with a mixture of both rugby class and pure determination leading to more scores. There was also plenty of learning, mistakes cost tries as do missed tackles, however this is all part of their development and will serve them well in the seasons ahead.
Pleasing to see was also the drills that have been worked on at training being implemented onto the pitch, sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't but that too is ok, you need to carry out these things within a live game in order to improve.
So many top performers today but the player of the day went to Harvey (Bear), his overall work rate and desire was high class, never gave up and gave the opposition a torrid time with ball in hand.
Try scorers were Harrison,Hugo,Bear,Thomas,Sebastian & Louis
This weekend we host Billericay which is always a tough test
See you pitch side
