It seemed like the weather was going cause havoc with the fixtures this weekend but after an inspection the Millfields pitches were is great shape so it was game on.
The U11 warriors faced off against Braintree this Sunday, a side that over the past seasons have proven to be tough opposition.
Having missed out on training this week due to the cold conditions it would be interesting to see if the Munch Bunch would carry on the fine form they showed the previous weekend, and so they did.
From the first kick of the ball the starting 9 were putting Braintree under pressure with some intense tackling and competitive rucking, they seemed to be hunting together to snuffle out any potential Braintree attacks especially from Braintree's larger ball carrying players.
The pressure was telling and it wasn't long before the warriors broke through to score their opening try of the game and this was quickly followed up by two more scores to round off an outstanding first quarter.
So the question was could the next 9 continue with the same intensity and mindset, something the coaching team have been working on with the squad; that was answered within minutes with some brilliant defence against a determined Braintree side eager to score their first points, however the warriors were steadfast and worked hard to see off the attacks and themselves scored the next few tries rounding off another outstanding quarter.
The next two quarters saw much of the same, great tackling, rucking and some super team tries with the odd individual effort mixed in showing what great potential these players have. Braintree never gave up and with great determination managed to cross the line to gain a few scores which lifted their spirits.
What is pleasing to see is the development of all the players and them looking to play rugby, moving away from bunching up and greedy gremlins to what we are starting to see, a team playing together, for each other and being a force to be reconned with.
This weeks player of the match was Ivy who caused chaos all game with some jinking runs and some ever impressive tackling.
This weeks try scorers were, Harrison, Bear, Thomas, Ivy, Cass & Louis
Next week we travel to our friends at Southend for another tough encounter
See you pitch side
