With a large number of the U11's squad away, venturing down the snowy slopes and a few last minute injury pull-outs, it was down to the remaining warriors to host Billericay, a team normally well matched with us and who would bring an aggressive but expansive style of play.
So on a perfect morning at Millfields the game begun as expected, both side tackling hard, competing at the breakdown and moving the ball forward as quickly as possible.
As with previous encounters both these sides are well matched in most areas and this was proving to be an extremely entertaining game, flowing one way and then the other, Burnham striking first only for Billericay to strike back.
The standard of play on the field was excellent as where the TREDS on show, players from both teams commitment to the cause and looking to play the pitch in front of them. Ivy, leading from the standoff position was looking to continue to bring in moves that have been worked on, which when done at pace was giving the warriors good field positions and enabled Burnham to score a couple of well worked tries.
Players form both sides were showing real heart and determination throughout, but alas towards the final quarter a bit of tiredness was creeping in and a couple of missed tackles and wayward passes aloud Billericay to claw back and get a bit of daylight between themselves and Burnham.
We gathered the troops together after the game and what we saw was amazing, shoulder to shoulder, sweat pouring off of them, bruised, battered..... but all grinning ear to ear! What a shift they all put in and this just goes to show what a fantastic group of players we have and the potential that is in this squad for seasons to come.
Special mention to our two players of the day, Ivy was a constant threat all game with ball in hand but is also starting to add to her development by interlinking with her attacking line, her breakdown work is also pretty decent. Sebastian, a tackling machine today, he was everywhere and hitting anything that moved whilst also providing go forward ball with some excellent running lines.
We take a week off now and look forward to meeting up with the rest of the squad to finish off the season in style with games against Rochford & Basildon.
Tries scored by, Harrison, Bear & Sebastian.
See you pitch side
