U11's V Chelmsford

U11's V Chelmsford

Kevin Prior15 Dec - 09:04

Size doesn't matter

On Sunday the U11's travelled to Chelmsford with a smaller than normal squad due to some last minute omissions, but this didn't deter the Munch Bunch away from the task in hand which was to learn lessons from the previous week and start fast and that's exactly what they did.
In fantastic conditions Burnham kicked off and immediately put Chelmsford under pressure with some intense tackling and counter rucking, turning over the ball and mounting wave after wave of attack using combinations of ball carriers and width to eventually turn the pressure onto scores.
This theme continued for some time as Burnham continued to play some good attacking rugby, looking to off load and move the ball down the line as well as utilising their new set play drills which worked really well and enabled the team to break the gain line on several occasions.
Chelmsford were not however going to let Burnham have it all their own way and competed well at the break down noticing this as an area Burnham had lightened their intensity in and started turning over a few balls, one leading to a break away, a missed tackle and Chelmsford were over for their first score which lifted their heads.
Both teams were now battling hard, testing each others defence and playing a territory game with some nice kicks being put in by both sides, two of these such kicks lead to two identical scores from Burnhams rampaging centre Harvey (Bear), who chased down Toby's long range punt to pick up and sprint in to score.
Burnhams small squad were bring stretched as bodies where being put on the line and after losing both influential players Harrison & Sebastian to injury, both where having a massive game and seeing Chelmsford's much larger squad ringing in the changes they new they had to battle hard - and that they did, to the very end each and everyone did their bit to ensure another positive performance.
It was great to see Amelia stepping into scrum half and she would have learnt a lot from doing so, Harry stretching the defence with some pacey runs on the wing and Arthur stepping up and carrying the ball forward. Louis, Cass, Regan & Hugo time and again carried the ball well in contact and the ever impressive Alfie & Ivy proving a class act in attack and defence.
Our player of the match went to Toby showing great communication skills in leading his backline and his kicking out of hand was great to see, he also put in a tackle...or two! well done Toby.
Tries were scored by Louis, Ivy, Harrison, Hugo & Bear
The game itself was played in a great spirit with both sides looking to play open rugby and some fantastic TREDS on show.
The Munch Bunch take a much needed rest now for Christmas before they go again in the New Year beginning with SWF at home.
See you pitch side
