Finishing off in style

The Warriors last game of the season saw them travel with a squad of 12 players to face a Chelmsford side large enough to have two teams plus subs, a tough task for any team.
However, on a beautiful morning at Coronation Park and backed by an enormous supporting crowd from Burnham, the warriors produced an amazing performance, without doubt the best of the season and baring in mind the team sets its standard high, this was no mean feat.
From the very first whistle Burnham set out their game plan, be physical at the breakdown and attack at pace when the moment is right and with some mammoth ball carries from Thomas, Cass, Alfie and Huxley this is exactly what they did. The communication between Harrison & Ivy was on point today, mixing when to use go forward ball and when to spread the ball wide had the Chelmsford defence in all sorts of problems.
Everything seemed to be working for Burnham, backline calls where having a devastating effect, not only through positive scores on the pitch but also when Chelmsford did sneak toward the Burnham line an accurate clearing kick with a chasing line made either huge yardage or ended in turnover ball for Burnham; pleasing for the coaches to see but also the players understanding why these drills are trained week in week out.
Chelmsford began to ring the changes, bringing on an entire team of fresh legs, but still the Warriors continued to dominate, some incredible tackling from Sebastian keeping Chelmsford at bay until finally our opponents sheer determination to score paid off and they scored a few well worked tries of their own…… but back came the warriors, finding yet another level of fitness and desire, the whole team found a renewed level the supporters stunned by what they were watching, it was truly inspiring to see……..
So late in the game, and with Bear & Harry racing around players in attack, Regan eking out hard running lines down the middle of the park and Tilly & Amelia carrying up and through the Chelmsford defence, it was Burnham who finished off how they started, in no doubt the better side on all fronts.
The skills on show (by both squads to be fair) was incredible, some individual brilliance coupled with the most amazing team tries had the huge warriors supporters cheering loader than I have heard all season. Burnham today were the complete package, desire, fitness, physicality, game plan execution coupled with a superb team spirit.
A fitting end to a great season and what a way to say “Au revoir” to our 3 young ladies, they all played the game of their lives, and they should be so proud of themselves for their efforts this year, they were incredible and were awarded our players of the day.
Another season is done, plaudits will be sung next week at our awards day but I would like to thank everyone for their support today and a massive thank you to Chelmsford Rugby club for once again being brilliant hosts and great opposition, both clubs playing, training and supporting in a way the game should be.
Tries scorers today: Alfie, Thomas, Amelia, Ivy, Cass, Harrison, Harry & Bear
