The warriors hosted our good friends Maldon in what has always been a very competitive fixture with both sides being able to field healthy squad sizes a four quarter match was agreed; the rain held off and conditions were pretty much perfect for a morning of rugby.
The first quarter began with a bang from the home team, putting pressure on Maldon throughout with a mixture of big ball carries and smart off loads to supporting players resulting in some brilliant team tries. Maldon seemed a little shell shocked at first but as the quarter was coming to an end found some fine form of their own and crossed the line, much to the pleasure of the team and travelling support.
Changes were made for the next quarter and both sides exchanged scores throughout with both individual and team tries being scored by Burnham and Maldon. Some great lessons being learnt during play with Maldon being really competitive at the breakdown and looking to drive the home team back in the rucks ensuring the home sides players had to be focused and switched on to retain the ball.
Further changes were made during the remaining quarters but the standards really didn't drop from either side, Maldon grew in confidence through the game matching Burnham's intensity in the tackle area, putting pressure on with ball in hand and even in the scrums both hookers contesting hard for each others ball. The teams exchanged some great scores through the closing stages putting on a really good show for the cheering crowd.
Goal line defence today was really pleasing to see with players tracking back and also driving back the opposition to turn over potential treats, amazing tenacity and desire.
Everyone and I truly mean everyone played their part in the game today to ensure a positive result, special mention though to Louis who made some amazing barnstorming runs, Toby and Bear for their kick chase combinations and of course Arthur for scoring his first ever try!
Amelia was our player of the match, her forward running and positive mindset at the ruck area was brilliant today, well done
Our thanks to Maldon for yet another great game of rugby played in brilliant spirits with great TREDS on and off the field.
Try scorers today: Louis, Alfie, Sebastian, Harrison, Thomas, Bear, Amelia & Arthur
Next week we travel to Rochford...see you pitch side!
