U11's Vs SWF/Old Brentwood's

Kevin Prior2 Mar - 09:09

Game Day is Back

The U11 warriors this week hosted a barbarian side made up of players from SWF and Old Brentwoods, both Burnham and their opponents having a good sized squad 4 quarters of rugby were played in what turned out to be better than expected conditions.
The game started at a frantic pace, the teams showing great determination in defence and not giving a inch, this was looking like it would be quite the battle with players from both sides making some hard hitting but textbook tackles.
Although Burnham were dominating the territory they were unable to make the breakthrough, either a dropped ball, stray pass or the fierce defence they were up against made the first quarter scoreless - but really entertaining!
A few words of wisdom from the coaches at the break and Burnham came out flying with some renewed energy and purpose and with the passes now sticking and support runners taking offloads it wasn't long before the tries started to come for the warriors, although they were made to work hard for each and every try they scored.
Harrison and Toby were starting to find gaps in the defence with some jinking runs and with some hard running lines from the likes of Bear, Regan & Thomas the pressure was starting to tell and a few more scored were put on the board.... but the barbarian side did not lay down, they fought their way way down the pitch and if not for some last ditch tackling would have scored a few more tries than the three they did. The one on one battles between players at times was above and beyond this age grade, a credit to both sides.
This was such an entertaining hard fought game of rugby played in a great atmosphere with fantastic TREDS both on and off the field
Every player who took to the field today really stepped up, especially Jude who was our player of the match, normally a little tentative he showed he can be positive with his contact physicality when he puts his mind to it.
As always, amazing support from the side-lines.
Tries were score today by Harrison, Thomas, Regan, Hugo, Alfie, Bear & Ivy
