Last Sunday the U11 warriors travelled to Witham in what proved to be a tough game in wet conditions.
Buoyed by their previous weeks performances they went it full of confidence, unfortunately this spurned a little bit of over-confidence and a slow sloppy start enabled Witham to score some early tries. Credit to the Much Bunch they worked their way back in with some scores of their own but it was evident that they weren't used to being on the backfoot and were slow to react to Witham's speed of defence, needing to be deeper in attack which aloud Witham to intercept on multiple occasions.
On too many occasions players were walking around the pitch, relying on others to put the effort in at the break down and around the tackle area. Something we are tying to avoid is the "greedy gremlin" which costed the team a few scores by choosing the wrong option and getting tackled with 2 or 3 team mates to pass to. Mindset and attitude has been a big focus from the coaching team so it was a little disappointing that we dropped this standard this week.
There were however some really good phases during the games and some direct running and great tackling by Regan saw him take home the player of the day award.
Hugo was great at taking some of Witham's scrums (a potential hooker for the future maybe?) and this contributed to the try of the day, taking the ball against the head with the ball being spun out to Toby at flyhalf who passed to Thomas who broke through several tackles then offloaded to Sebastian who ran at pace through the gap to score, cracking team try!
In the end we got the job done 6 tries to Witham's 4 and there are positives to take from the game but also plenty to work on at training.
Special mention to Thomas who was having a tremendous game but had to leave the pitch due to what looked like a nasty shoulder injury, last comms are that he is on the mend and should be back in the new year.
Tries scored by Ivy, Sebastian, Toby, Louis & Shane
Thank you to Witham for hosting us, a club with similar morals to ours and a great spirit on and off the field.
This week we travel to Chelmsford which will be a good test, lets hope the munch bunch are switched on from the very start.
See you pitch side
