Burnham ladies welcomed Billericay to the club for what was a fantastic battle of 02 rugby. Burnham flew out of the blocks at the start, with some immense passing moves which put Billericay under pressure in defence, and an early gap was spotted and thanks to some superb communication and teamwork the first try of the game was scored (Specks Diss). Billericay were not to be deterred and came back strong trying to battle through Burnham's defence, but Lauren Scott and Emma North were not giving them any space at all, closing down on them all the time, with great support in defence by Michelle Clark and Hannah and Milly Guilfoyle. Burnham kept up the pressure and managed to get several turn overs but Billericay were too disciplined in their defensive line so Burnham could not find a way through. Billericay managed to take a quick penalty and despite Vicky Smith making a valiant effort to stop them in their tracks they managed to even the scores. Half time 5-5. The second half both teams were fired up and the game took on a physical stance, which players seemed to thrive on, with Jessica Nicholls screaming touch on every occasion not to mention Paula Corrigan who held her position on the wing extremely well. Billericay were not giving up though and again managed to slip through for a great run, but Michelle Clark still chased them down but they just got over the line. The game continued with pressure and some exciting moves, Jenny Nelson desperately trying to run different lines to force a gap, and this finally came when Michelle Clark was in support for a quick ball to even the scores up. It was a tremendous display of rugby and both teams thoroughly enjoyed the fixture. Great reffing from Andrew Courts as well.
