Burnham ladies and mixed touch squad rocked up in force for the Essex 02 touch Festival at Upminster. It was a blisteringly hot day with music blaring out so out ran our squad against the giants of Havering and Upminster. Although it was our first official fixture as our mixed squad we were not put off by the apparent experience and speed of the opposition. We put up a tremendous fight with some excellent defence work. Most matches ending in either a draw or just one or two points in it. Our fast feet also threw the opposition as our top try scorer Lewis Gillett was fed some fantastic ball and was superb in finishing off the try and scoring several times through his clever dummies. Our squad had the most “ladies” in it and boy did they know how to play with their experience they worked well together to make some tremendous ground. The whole team were excellent and never let themselves down with even the youngest of the squad Joe Banks still putting pressure on right to the last minute. It was a great afternoon and we were awarded the Plate winners and Lewis Gillett was voted the overall youth player of the festival!
