2017.03.26 BRUFC Colts V Stanford Colts
Sunday 26th March a beautiful bright chilly Spring Mothers day, a perfect day to watch a game of Rugby. It was a huge pleasure to welcome Stanford Colts to Burnham Rugby Club, for a return match the spectators are always friendly, the players play competitive rugby and are always very polite around the Club house
Burnham, Captained by Harry Barclay, played a superb game of rugby today against opponents Stanford. Burnham started the scoring by an offload pass from Ben Barr to Rhys Newton who in turn found Jamie Pugh who put the ball behind the line to score Burnham’s first try.
James Coverdale making a return to the side (a second debut!) following an early season injury played a part in Burnham’s second try, passing to Luke Cowell, on to Joe Sadler off to Jamie Pugh through George Duck and finally put down for his second try of the game by Jamie Pugh, this time converted by Ben Barr.
Jamie went on to score a third try, George Duck scored a try and Ben Barr converted 2 more to bring half time score to 26-0
The visiting side worked hard and fought Burnham all the way but somehow couldn’t seem to get on the score board
Coming out after half time, Ben Bellchambers made a break supported by Luke Cowell, Ben offloaded to Luke giving Luke a try, again converted by Ben Barr. Shortly followed by a try from Sam David. the next try came from a chip from fullback Rhys Newton scooped up by Ben Bellchambers running on to score his first try of the season, score at this point 52-0
The next Burnham try came from right under the opposition goal post; Amiel Montelegre stole the ball from Stanford ran the full length of the pitch to put the ball down between the posts, a truly superb effort
Next score came from Connal Hornett, another first this season but well deserved. Burnham’s final try came from Man of the Match Tommy Shepherd, Tommy had consistently cleared out Stanford’s rucks throughout the game, and on this occasion he saw the space to run the pitch to score the try.
Captain Barclay’s comments - The boys played a superb game of rugby and went out from the off filled with energy to get us going
Burnham winning 71-0 Stanford
