The long awaited cup final hosted by Basildon RFC on Sunday. Burnham on Crouch v Westcliff
Burnham travelled to Basildon for what ended up being a nail biting final. Westcliff were electric as soon as the whistle went and scored in the 1st 5minutes followed by another 6 minutes later giving Westcliff an impressive lead. (0-14)
. However the mighty Burnham's heads didn't drop and minutes before half time Burnham's Dylan Hawkes scored which then meant Burnham upped their game to another level. Burnham were on the attack so many times and so close to getting more points on the board. Half time 7 - 14 to To Westcliff.
The second half saw Burnham turn the game their way by attacking and keeping possession rewarding themselves with an unconverted try executed by Kyle Page's sheer determination taking the score to 12- 14 . After a series of penalties awarded and conceded by high tackles and holding on Burnham managed to get into the lead by a perfect penalty kick through the posts by Ben Bellchambers excellent boot, putting Burnham in the lead - 15- 14.
With 15 minutes to go the game was up for grabs by either side and Burnham keeping possession and keeping focused Sam David bulldozed his way to a crushing try converted again by Ben Bellchambers. 22 - 14
The final 10 minutes saw a battle for supremacy Westcliff s wave after wave of attack but could not break through Burnham's excellent defensive line.
Westcliff finally broke through and scored a try giving them the last points of the match.
The final score 22 - 19 to Burnham On Crouch. A fantastic game played by both sides, what a game, truly brilliant and a fitting way to end the season for Burnham's Colts who will now all move into the Senior squad, a force to be reckoned with! Well done to all.
