Six team members arrived at Basildon RUFC which meant no substitutions with two very tricky games ahead as Canvey Island were also present. The first match was versus Canvey Island and proved to be very competitive against some very fast girls. Our tagging and spacing was excellent and kept Canvey down to only scoring four tries. This was also due to some well won lose balls. The eight tries were shared between Matthew Corrigan, George Corrigan and Stefan Webb scoring one, five and two respectively.
Next up was Basildon. Burnham ran out 7-10 winners with Matthew scoring three tries and George scoring six, however Charlie Hill surprised everyone with a sprint down the left wing to score a solo effort towards the end when legs were getting tired.
The boys today really worked hard on what we practiced in training proving some points are making their way into match play. The hot topic was ball retention. The accurate passing, clean catching, quick defensive formation and line control that they've been working hard on in training probably added to a few extra tries they might not have scored two weeks ago. They kept the ball well and even though there are many different characters in the team they worked hard for each other to get a positive result. Well done team!!!
Elliott Cottman really kept a cool head and tagged very well, Bobby Brown looked in the direction of the receiver of every pass and hardly put a pass wrong. Each and every player, the coach, the helper and spectators can be proud of what they saw.
