Burnham v Basildon U8

This week we welcomed Basildon for our first home fixture of the year.

This week we had every registered player for Burnham available to play with Lucas having to sit out due to an ear operation, however he came down to show support for the team. With 12 players and playing 6 a-side we split into two teams. Basildon had one team with a couple of substitutes so we agreed to play three games of 7.5 mins per half.

Every game was very close and both teams were evenly matched. Every game was played in good spirits and some great Sportsmanship and TREDZ shown by individuals, one of note in the second game, Frankie for Burnham stopped to see if the Basildon player (whom was bowled over after a coming together of two players) was okay. Once everyone was fine, Frankie, with a big grin on his face then tagged the player as the game continued. All coaches saw the funny side and Frankie was commended for his actions by the Basildon Coach. Well done Frankie.

Overall adding all the scores together there was probably only 1 try difference between the games but all the children looked like they were enjoying themselves with some great individual runs but also some brilliant support running on both teams allowing the quick pass to get in for a score. An honourable draw is a fair result for some great competitive rugby.

Player of the week this week was awarded to George R (we have two George's in the team). Although new to the team and still learning the rules and regulations of the game, he kept himself in the defensive line, ran some good attacking lines and tagged very well, even waiting for the opposition to take back their tags without complaining. Well done George R

Post game we wished our captain for the week - Zachery a very Happy Birthday, having his birthday actually on game day and he kindly brought down sweets for the players after the game.
