JOSEPH BANKS DISPLAYED FANTASTIC DEFENDING AND ATTACKING

Burnham Under 7’s play Witham at home this weekend on the wettest day so far, not only does it make for slippery handling but it starts to chill the players as they get wet. Witham brought one under 7’s team of four players and Burnham had a squad of ten players which we split in to two teams of five (four players and one substitute).

The first four players from Burnham came out to a flying start and despite the ball being slippery managed to make a couple of turnover balls and went into half time two tries up on with a substitute at half time Burnham came out all guns blazing and manage to extend their lead and won the first game 8-5.

The second game was faster and more furious than the first with Witham fully warmed up. The weather put both teams under pressure as the rain came down tags slipped between fingers, the game was end to end on the pitch which finished in draw 8-8.

This was the end of the day for most players as they were beginning to get a both cold and wet, Witham wanted another game. Four of our players where prepared to continue playing in the deteriorating weather Patrick Smyth, Oliver Bennett, Joseph Banks and Kieran Harris. In this fast and wet game Burnham just pipped Witham winning 7-6.

The under sevens played some of their best rugby to date in probably the worst conditions with great ball handing, support and team work, which lead to our victory on the day. I would especially like to mention Beth Hainsby's support play which led to her first competitive try and the player of the match was Joseph Banks for all round tagging and scoring tries in both the games he played.
