On what started and a very cold and wet wintery day Burnham U7 travelled to May & Baker. However upon arrival the rain held off and both teams started the game well.
May & Baker have only been training together for 1 year but that did not show at all. They have some good runners and some great skills in dodging taggers. With many tries being run in Burnham started to wake up a little and coming from behind in the try stakes soon caught up and utilised the space on the wings where May & Baker were keeping a tight defence in-field. Burnham eventually ending the first game with a narrow margin of 11-10 try winners. Nearly all players for Burnham scoring tries and everybody contributing to the Tag count.
The second game proved to be not so close although that was not obvious with the playing of the game. Both teams seemed to be running in tries but Burnham defensive Tagging was better in this game than it was in the first and they were quick to respond to a dropped ball. The second game had every Burnham player scoring tries and Tyson impressing on his match debut.
The player of the week was a very tough decision and it could have been any of the players that could have won it. Jake and Finian showed some great TREDS with making sure that the May & Baker players got their tags back and George checking some payers were ok after tripping up. Daniel ran out the week as Top try scorer with Lucas & Finian close behind. However Zachery just edged the decision for player of the week with great play during the game but especially for his TREDS and helping the team and opposition. Well done to all and thank you to all the parents for standing out in the cold to support them all.
