BURNHAM BLAST OUT OF THE BLOCKS WITH CAPTAIN GILLETT PUSHING THEM ON

On a Sunny Sunday morning the day after the Rugby Beer n Fun Festival the U13s were in an upbeat mood. With the Captain running the team out to cheers from the supporters, Burnham kicked off the first half with determination and organisation with Old Brentwood making ground and competing in the rucks winning the ball, Burnham held and defended brilliantly with tackle after tackle and wining some penalties due to an infringement. Burnham were breaking out of their own half with excellent mauling from their incredibly strong forwards and passing but they just could not break down the stubborn defence. The forwards managed to get the ball out to the winger on the left hand side who made a tremendous run down the touch line but Old Brentwood closed us down again! This was an extremely close half with a game of cat and mouse from both sides.

Second half Burnham upped a notch and attacked constantly from one side to the other but could not find that final ball to breakaway. Burnham scrum half continued to hassle at the scrum and didn't leave the opposing scrumhalf time on the ball, but Old Brentwood held their ground and played brilliantly in defence.
Burnham gave away a penalty in their own half and Old Brentwood gained advantage midway through this half with some passing and player broke into space to go over the try line despite a last minute tackle to go 5 points up. Burnham heads did not drop they continued to fight every ball with the full back making try saving tackles, Burnham kept attacking and Old Brentwood had last ditch defence to keep out. Then Burnham made a fine move with cross field kick which our No 10 steamed through to pounce on but unfortunately Old Brentwood touched it down just before our player did, so the try was not awarded so unlucky for Burnham but well done to Old Brentwood. Well done to our three new players great courage and skill.
