Burnham had a great visit at Braintree today. The game started with Braintree scoring two early tries but unlike previous matches Burnham did not let this deter them. They came back with great pressure in attack, with new fly half playing well and getting the ball out to give some players a great run, Braintree kept the pressure on us but we were not to be pushed back. Burnham were awarded several scrums which we were just incredible at winning almost every scrum and turning over several as well the ball was released to the backs with ease and there was some excellent forward running. The first points of the match came from a tremendous run up with the pitch for him to dive over the line. The tries then came thick and fast with more excellent off loading and movement of the ball our new player steamed up the pitch leaving players in his wake to go over twice in a row. Braintree then came back at us with a great try scored by them. Our heads held high we had yet more movement of the ball and with the incredible hunger of the hooker he just kept picking up the ball at the rucks and surged forwards for more points. The first half ended with Burnham finding the ball moves faster than players and reaching the hands of the second row who went over for his hatrick! First half Braintree 15 - Burnham 25
The second half saw lots of fresh legs put on for Braintree and with warnings coming from the ref about high tackles, the game became more physical, Burnham unfortunately dropped a little for a short period of time to let Braintree whizz through with five tries in succession. With each side having a player sin binned the pressure was on, and Burnham managed to shake off the negative feelings and switch back on and started to play yet more fantastic rugby with pressure in both defence and attack. Braintree managed to get through our defence again and put two more tries over, but Burnham would not allow themselves to give up and hats off to them, they came charging out of the blocks with yet more faultless scrums and highly effective rucks they won a penalty and regrouped and surged for the line, unfortunately not quite making it, however yet more fantastic teamwork was displayed by Burnham and they charged through with the final points being scored by our hooker who literally flew over the line. Well done boys!
